Summary of DRAFT Winter Membership Meeting Minutes

At the Winter 2026 General Membership Meeting (GMM), members reviewed the Fall 2026 GMM meeting minutes, received the Treasurer’s financial report, and listened to the President’s report on the Washington State PTA (WSPTA) Standards of Affiliation, highlights of PTSA events and programs held so far, and a preview of exciting activities coming soon.

The President also discussed the overall health of the budget in detail and explained the significant surplus, which resulted from careful strategic budget planning, staying within budget, and avoiding overspending. With this surplus, the President proposed to revised to the budget to fund the following areas:

  • Emergency preparedness supplies

  • Sensory room and other special needs resources

  • Kindergarten support (including field trip bussing and art supplies)

  • 5th Grade day camp

  • Whole-school assembly (e.g., anti-bullying)

  • Low-income and counseling support

  • Social-emotional support

  • Dance education

  • STEAM enrichment

  • Other needs (credit card processing fees, school and teacher support)

These are all critically important areas that support our school, teachers and staff, and students.

A motion was made to approve the revised budget. The motion carried by majority vote.

Additional motions were made to elect new board members, adopt the Standing Rules, and elect the Nominating Committee. All motions carried by majority vote.

Q & A from the Meeting

Q. Can you make the Fall General Membership Meeting Minutes available?

A. The summaries of the Fall and Winter General Membership Meeting minutes are available on the PTSA website

Q. Can you elaborate on playground and garden support?

A. The PTSA provides funding to maintain the playground and garden.

Q. What curriculum grants have been granted this year?

A. The PTSA prioritizes support for student health and safety. With the approval of the revised budget, curriculum grants can now be made available.

Q. How much money was raised during the Fall Fundraiser, including corporate matching?

A. The fall fundraiser raised $41,932.88 and to date, an additional $21,373.20 has been received in corporate matching.

Q. What items were cut from the Fall budget?

A. The revised budget adds funds to the existing budget.

Q. What is the estimated ending balance for the school year?

A. As a nonprofit organization, we operate in accordance with our membership-approved budget and will not know the remaining funds until the financial review is completed at the end of the fiscal year.

Q. Why do the 4/5 Quest kids get to go twice on the 5th Grade field trip?

A. The small number of students who are in the Quest program for both 4th and 5th grade will have the opportunity to take part in the 5th grade camp during both years that they are a part of the 4/5 Quest class. This ensures that these 4th grade students do not feel isolated or excluded from their 5th grade peers, as they are all part of the same classroom community.

Q. What are the plans for field trips for other grades?

A. Any grade is welcome to ask the PTSA for help with funding school field trips. In addition to funding the 5th grade day camp, we are funding bussing for Kindergarten field trips. Field trips are a lot of work and are organized by the teachers in each grade, and not all grades choose to organize field trips, or the same number of field trips each year. We are very lucky that our 5th grade staff are passionate about bringing a camp experience to our school for our 5th grade students (initially a day camp with the hope that we will be able to transition to an overnight camp in the future). This is an experience that most other local elementary schools already offer their students and is made possible by heavily leaning on their PTSA’s for funding. We are so grateful that we can also bring this experience to our school community.

Q. What is the date of the ACT play?

A. The dates are determined by the school.
