Message from our wonderful Alcott Nurses
Every year, Alcott Elementary provides Vision and Hearing Screenings for students to help identify any early signs of difficulty seeing or hearing. These screenings are not diagnostic tests, but rather quick checks that help determine if a child might need further evaluation by a healthcare professional.
- Vision Screening:
Is now screened with a vision screening instrument called a PlusOptix. This helps detect possible vision issues such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, or other conditions that can affect learning and classroom performance. - Hearing Screening:
Students wear headphones and listen for a series of tones at different volumes and pitches. This helps identify possible hearing loss or ear-related issues that might impact communication or learning.
If any concerns are found, parents or guardians will be notified so they can follow up with their child’s eye doctor or hearing specialist.
These screenings help ensure that every student can see and hear their best, setting them up for success in school!
We will also train volunteers for about 5-10 minutes prior to the screening so that they can help.
